For Immediate Release
(Sydney, NS): Today, Mark Eyking, Member of Parliament for Sydney – Victoria, announced that Beinn Breagh Hall has been designated as a national historic site, and Mabel Hubbard Bell (1857-1923) as a national historic person.
“I’m very pleased that Beinn Bhreagh Hall will receive national historic site designation and Mabel Bell will receive designation as a national historic person. Mabel Bell and the Bell’s summer residence, Beinn Bhreagh, are significant pieces of Cape Breton’s vibrant cultural heritage,” said Eyking.
In December 2015, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada considered the national historic significance of both subjects and recommended the designations. A public plaque unveiling will be announced at a later date.
