For Immediate Release
(Ottawa, ON) Today, Member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria, Mark Eyking, questioned the Minister of Infrastructure on whether the government will consider investing in a second Marine Berth under the new Liberal Infrastructure Plan to accommodate increasing ship traffic.
The Port of Sydney has long been an essential asset to the economy of Cape Breton Island.
Studies have shown that construction of a second Marine Berth in the Harbour would greatly enhance Port traffic, especially in the lucrative cruise ship sector.
My question is for the Minister of Infrastructure:
Does the Minister see this project for a second berth in the Port of Sydney as a type of project worthy of consideration for infrastructure funding?”
Following Question Period Eyking Stated “Sydney harbour has and will continue to be a critical economic driver for Cape Breton.” Eyking added “This Saturday I will be attending the Sydney Ports Corporation Annual General Meeting where people from across Cape Breton will come together to learn about the proposed developments for the Port of Sydney.”
